Election Nominations and Candidates Profiles

This post is for potential candidates to post information about themselves.
Please post a comment below with the relevant information.
We will notify the election dates once they have been announced.
It should be noted that State and Territory nomination and election dates will be advertised by the Australian Electoral Commission in the major newspaper of each State.
Further information should be available at the AEC website:
http://www.aec.gov.au/About_AEC/AEC_Services/Industrial_Elections/index.htm

We are having a difficulty overcoming SDA censorship.  There are approximately 300,000 of us members.  We all have family and friends, some working in the media.  We would ask that you use whatever contacts you have to raise the profile of the site.  What we are attempting is a real David & Goliath situation and for candidates to have any hope of success they need to reach as many members as possible.

We are not attempting to influence how people vote, only providing an opportunity for members to express their democratic rights.

We would hope all candidates, both sitting and potential, let the membership know their plans for the future in relation to restoring a decent wage and conditions.

The SDA have managed to keep the election dates secret. You will see no notfication on any notice boards. Nominations opened on the 1st of July, 2010 and will close the morning of 16th July, 2010.

We have invited Mr. Donovan to put down commitments and promises should he be re-elected. He has had ample opportunity to do so and he hasn't. We can only assume that we are in for more of the same insignificant payrises and conditions out the window.

Coles people should take special note that the company and the SDA are negotiating your new agreement. It appears that the new manning system referred to as REM has been deferred until after the close of nominations. The reason for this is that the new REM system is going to cause a large number of employees to be put off, the casuals will go first, part-timers are to have their hours reduced, full timers will find themselves rostered for more night and weekend work. These hours are compulsory.

If the truth about the REM system got out it may have affected Mr. Donovan's re-election, hence the deferral.

It is time for candidates to come forward, a last ditch hope of forcing a credible election situation where Donovan and nominees would be required to give undertakings.

This will be the only chance for a number of years to have your say.

For people to nominate they should apply to the Electoral Commission for Nomination Forms, their phone number is: (03) 8611 7000.

The second option is to ring the SDA and ask for nominations to be sent, we would not recommend this option because unfortunately, things do get lost in the mail.

Victoria is the first of the elections, our blogsite is only new and we have not had the resources to publicise it's existence but the site will go on to raising it's profile and being prepared to assist candidates both Victoria and interstate.

The opportunity for a brighter working future is within our grasp when you read Mr. Donovan's glossy pamphlet go through the list of alleged achievements and how they apply in your workplace. Once again he refers to mythical penalty rates and claims credit for improvements made by labor state government, federal government, trades hall, ACTU.

He refers to the new modern awards, these were written under the auspices of federal government and it's industrial arm, Fairwork Australia. I think Mr. Donovan should keep away from these agreements as they still contain the penalty rates which we once enjoyed. Fairwork Australia recently awarded a $26.00 pay rise to employees covered by this award.

Information from the new candidate, Sam Mete, has been posted on the site for all members' consideration. We invited Mr. Donovan to post his commitments for the future of the SDA but he has declined the offer.

The purpose of the site has always been to encourage debate and awareness of the SDA's future direction and where members could receive information and commitments to enable them to make informed decisions when voting.

    A Message to Sam Mete

I was pleased to see that there is somebody standing for Victorian Branch Secretary who says that he will fight for Better Pay and Conditions, we need that.

I noticed, however that you make a point about your opponent's marital status, I say that the personal life of the candidate is not relevant. I support the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity position that we should not discriminate on the grounds of gender, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, race, nationality, religion or disability.

I don't care what our current Secretary does personally but I do care what he does professionally and that is to sell us out to the bosses.

Please reassure me that you will fight for members of the SDA whether we are male or female, married or single, gay or straight, black or white and whatever religion.

i know Sam Mete very well and he has friends from all walks of life and some of his friends are gay.He would not mean to be anti gay in any way.I think he meant that as a family man he knows what its like to raise a family and pay the mortgage etc unlike his opponent. The SDA needs a family man as secretary hence the slogan (the family man working for you)

A comment was posted by an obviously upset member of the SDA. We have found it necessary to remove the comments because of some of the language that was used. Lots of people have strong comments but I would remind you that our site does not countenance the use of profanity.

There must be some SDA officials about to stand for re election. A number of people who are SDA members have found to their surprise that approximately three weeks ago their deductions of union fees have stopped which will make them ineligible to stand for elected positions. (this is no accident). All members should watch their major newspapers for SDA election notifications and be ready to assist with fresh honest candidates should they nominate for positions. Our site will assist any members of good character in their campaign.

i see Joe DeBryun is once again publicly opposing gay marriage and good on him for having the courage to do so.I just wonder what Michael Donovans thoughts are on the same issue?
