ReplyDeleteSo it begins, store mngrs and meat mngrs summoning pple in to explain how they r going to screw us out of weekend penalties and ask us to choose. Schedule B is the only option for at least another nine months, or until they try to force us out to get slave labour (i.e. SDA ppl or those who chose option A)in on weekends. Here is an excerpt from Fair Work Australia under general protection application "A person (such as an employer) must not take any adverse action against another person (such as an employee) because the other person has a workplace right, has exercised a workplace right, or proposes to exercise such a right..........
ReplyDelete344 Undue influence or pressure
An employer must not exert undue influence or undue pressure on an employee in relation to a
decision by the employee to:
(a) make, or not make, an agreement or arrangement under the National Employment
Standards; or
(b) make, or not make, an agreement or arrangement under a term of a modern award or
enterprise agreement that is permitted to be included in the award or agreement under
subsection 55(2)"
Your knowledge is far greater than mine in regards to regulations. The real villains are the SDA secretaries, organisers and store reps. The secretaries negotiated the secret deal, the organisers and the store reps through either ignorance or stupidity or downright jealousy encouraged people in the stores, especially the casual kids, to vote for the crappy agreement. The average SDA member were not informed as what was going on so please do not hold us responsible, direct your anger at the deceitful SDA representatives.
ReplyDeleteWhen are the negotiations for the next EBA? I understand that any of us can appoint our bargaining agents for this process. How can we do something like that.I think lots of us (i.e. Woolworths employees)should think about doing that

ReplyDeleteThere is talk amongst woolies management of the company wanting to hire a new apprentice butcher at every store. What's the bet they will be on the weekend roster? They will be nice and cheap while we miss out on the penalty rates.
Our contact within Woolworths HR Department has confirmed your suspicion. The new apprentices will not be taught the skills apprentices once were which will result in a group of people who are semi-skilled. Instruction has gone out that should a currently employed butcher break any rule or regulation they are to be dismissed to make way for the new group of workers. This has become possible because of the advances in the gas infused meat technology. The current meat employees have reached their best buy date.
ReplyDeleteWhat's happening to Woolworths supermarkets for years they have been portraying themselves as the "fresh food people". They appear to have changed direction and now refer to themselves as "my woolies". Is this because something has happened which the public are unaware of or had they been instructed to by some government agency such as the ACCC whose mandate is truth in advertising????

ReplyDeleteNEWSFLASH
ReplyDeleteTIME 10.45AM MONDAY, 23RD OCTOBER, 2011
WE HAVE JUST BEEN INFORMED THAT THE SDA AND WOOLWORTHS HAVE COMMENCED THE OFFICIAL PART OF THE NEGOTIATIONS FOR A NEW AGREEMENT TO COVER ALL EMPLOYEES IN WOOLIES SUPERMARKETS AUSTRALIA WIDE. (WE ARE ALSO AWARE THAT THE UNOFFICIAL NEGOTIATIONS HAVE BEEN GOING ON FOR SOMETIME)
WE ARE NOW IN A POSITION TO BRING REGULAR UPDATES AS TO THE PROGRESS OF THESE NEGOTIATIONS AS WE NOW HAVE ASSOCIATED MEMBERS WITHIN BOTH OF THE BEFOREMENTIONED GROUPS.
RUMOUR UNCONFIRMED AT THIS STAGE IS THAT THE SDA HAVE APPROACHED THE MEATWORKERS UNION FOR ASSISTANCE.
IF THIS IS TRUE, WE HOPE MR. DE BRUYN IS MAN ENOUGH TO LISTEN AND FOLLOW THEIR ADVICE.
WARNING TO MEATWORKERS UNION BEWARE OF THE SDA STATE SECRETARIES AND ESPECIALLY THEIR LEADER, JOE DE BRUYN, AS THESE GENTLEMEN ARE WELL SCHOOLED IN THE USE OF WEASEL WORDS AND OTHER FORMS OF DECEPTIVE BEHAVIOUR.
WILL BRING YOU FURTHER UPDATES WHENEVER POSSIBLE.
CONTACT THE SITE IF YOU HAVE ANY MESSAGES OR SUGGESTIONS TO PASS ON TO MR. DE BRUYN.

sda is a week sell out association, we need a UNION , Ive worked arvo shift for nearly 3 years and have never seen an SDA official!!!!! EBA negotiations started , what for they will just sell us out as usual !!!!!MR DE BRUYN YOU ARE A WEEK HEARTED PERSON who does not care i your member am struggling to make ends meet !!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am currently the SDA delegate in a large Woolies store and have recently been receiving a lot of flack from fellow members of the sda. The comments that are causing most concern is in relation to the current negotiations. I have spoken to my organiser who has informed me that what's happening in my workplace is not isolated but is occurring in the majority of Woolies supermarkets. I asked him if he could get some up to date information in relation to the negotiations taking place as I am constantly being attacked for the loss of conditions in our previous agreements. The newer younger employees are not aware of what's been going on but the long serving members have long memories. My organiser informed me that he cannot be critical or ask for details as the response always from above is to hose it down, keep it quiet, promise to get back to people and if he fails to contain the situation, he better find a new job. So please could you contact the sda on my behalf and seek an update for all Woolies employees.
ReplyDeleteThe meat department employees are extremely upset as to the way that the company and the sda removed the majority of their conditions and are fearful that the sda's starting the negotiations nine months early is an indication that the people who chose to be group B will be sold down the drain the same as all new employees.
Is it possible from somebody from within your group to interview a meat organiser by the name of Laurie Burley to find out as alleged by the meat department that a conspiracy was entered into between Woolworths and the SDA to curtail his access to his membership.
If the sda cannot resolve these issues I will have to resign my position as store rep and member of the sda if it be proven that the company and the sda are working together in a corrupt manner.
We will take up your suggestion and write to Mr. De Bruyn with a series of questions and suggestions from our membership and will post a copy on the site.
ReplyDeleteIn relation to your second request we have contacted the person. He was certainly easy to find than an sda organiser. He has agreed to be interviewed in relation to the problem of Woolworths' access and explain the sda's involvement. But he also stated even though he has no respect for the sda he will make no comments in relation to any of their agreements or matters relating to their leadership as he feels it is inappropriate to make comment on the sda. Issues with the sda should be handled by our blogsite or sda members.
has michael donovan ever negotiated a 6% pay rise in his life?????i am a proud C.F.M.E.U member,my wife works at woolies and i have only 1 word when SDA comes to mind "WEEK",and the whole trade union movement no they are SELL OUT union!! I hope the people behind this site restore the sda !!
ReplyDeletefor the SDA shop steward western suburbs, the transcript from FWA (a copy is on this site) details that woolies mngmt and the SDA were alreaday in negotiations and purposefully EXCLUDED the AMIEU from these negotiations. Its tough reading but the admissions are in there. SO,if you are true to what u say,it would be interesting to see your SDA resignation letter lmao

ReplyDeleteSave us from the SDA
The Woolworths negotiations with the SDA union is continuing. The new agreement will cover in excess of 100,000 supermarket employees. We need to contact as many as possible to encourage them to take an interest. Failure to do so will result in an agreement that lessens our conditions once again. The more Woolworths employees who take an interest and express their points of view to their organisers, state secretaries, the better the outcome will be. it is harder for Mr. De Bruyn, federal secretary of the SDA, to be submissive to the will of Woolworths when he and the company are both aware that people have expectations and are watching what the result is. There have been in excess of six meetings so far, no reports have been issued, no workers have been canvassed for their thoughts. We would ask you dear friends to encourage Woolies employees to visit our facebook, ReformSda, http://ReformSDA.blogspot.com study our history, what we stand for and to read the numerous comments that have been placed there by workmates Australia wide. Both the company and the union monitor our sites and members input will have a bearing on whether or not we get a good result.
ReplyDeleteHow can Woolies workers be expected to make decisions in relation to our conditions. We all have great faith in Mr. Joe De Bruyn to do the best for us as he has always done. I think it is wrong to blame Joe for giving away our conditions and penalty rates and giving us a crappy rate of pay. It was actually the fault of Woolworths, the biggest food retailer in Australia, who is greedy, selfish and uncaring. So stop being critical of Mr. De Bruyn. Some of the responsibility belongs to the state secretaries who have not been looking after our best interests. Good luck in the future Mr. De Bruyn - I don't care what everyone else says I am sure you will achieve a great deal.
ReplyDeleteI am sure he will achieve a great deal as well. Joe, being the representative of woolies obedient little lapdog i.e. the SDA, will agree to remove every penalty rate... nights, sundays, etc and also advocate compulsory work on public holidays. Yes, yes he is a real champion of the people your joe....... NOT!!
ReplyDeleteWoolies meat workers have been targeted, by manipulation from the SDA, causing a jealous rift between the meat workers and the grocery side of things..firstly in asking other staff to vote against meat workers receiving penalties, and cold allowance which is now no longer applicable to meat workers and i have physically seen and heard a store manager asking a member of AMEIU to not bother coming in the store to talk to meat workers again..why?? to protect the SDA which actually does nothing for meat workers..and the tradesman butcher actually receives less money than some of the non trade workers..its criminal, and its wrong and will cause problems for Woolworths in the foreseeable future
